What is a Mobile VPN?
A Mobile VPN is a VPN that is designed and optimized to work with
mobile info and wireless networks. Because legacy VPNs were designed
for site-to-site and for stationary user security, they are cumbersome
to use and are incapable of providing the persistent security and
the seamless roaming that are required for mobile users.

What is Viatores?
Viatores is a client-server Mobile VPN software solution. It combines
the proven security of a traditional VPN with the familiar simplicity
of a cellular phone. Users of Viatores stay connected to the corporate
network seamlessly and securely while roaming across multiple networks,
whether inside the office or outside.
How does a Mobile VPN differ
from a legacy VPN?
A Mobile VPN provides the same level of security as a legacy VPN,
but adds features that are required for the mobile age such as seamless
roaming, application persistence, and wireless optimization.
Viatores helps increase employee productivity by reducing the
complexity of wired and wireless network roaming while legacy VPNs
reduce employee productivity because of their complexity.

Is Viatores as secure as
my legacy VPN?
Yes.
Viatores' core security component is based on IPSec, the de facto
standard for security in the majority of VPN products. Additionally,

including AES, 3DES, SHA-1, X.509 certificates and many other standards.
What are the key features
of Viatores?
Viatores includes the following key features:

What does Viatores add over WEP or WPA
for providing security for my Wi Fi network?
The Wired-Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and Wi-Fi Protected
Access (WPA) standards were designed to protect Wi-Fi networks from
intruders, especially in corporate environments. WEP was quickly
discredited after several universities and labs proved that It can
be hacked using easily-downloadable tools. Efforts to shore up the
key size In WEP also failed because of a fundamental flaw In the
encryption algorithm used In the standard.
WPA is a new standard offered by the Wi-Fi vendors to replace WEP.
Although WPA solves the majority of problems reported in the WEP,
the new standard still has limitations that can prevent its use
in large enterprise deployments:
|
1. |
Existing access points must be upgraded to support
WPA. Older access points are not supported. |
|
2. |
WPA still requires placing the access points inside
the enterprise firewall. Although this may not be problematic
for small organizations, most IT organizations in large enterprises
will refuse to do so. Access points inside the firewall are
the equivalent of Ethernet hubs connected to the enterprises
LAN, regardless of the level of authentication and encryption
applied to them. |
|
3. |
WPA usage is limited to Wi-Fi and does not support
hotspots, cellular data networks, or any other type of network.
|
Viatores allows enterprises to use proven IPSec security for Wi-Fi
access and all other networks. In addition, it allows seamless roaming
between any network to any network, including wide-area networks.
Viatores does not require placing the access points inside the firewall,
which ensures that corporate networks are not open to attacks using
Wi-Fi.

Is Viatores compatible with my existing
VPN?
Viatores can co-exist with other VPNs on a corporate network. It
can be used for users who are more mobile such as salespeople, field
representatives, and executives as well as users of the corporate
Wi-Fi. The legacy VPN can continue to be used for stationary
users (i.e. users who just dial in from home or a remote office).
Once Viatores is up and running, companies can transition all of
their employees to Viatores over time.
What networks has Viatores
been tested on?
Viatores has been tested on numerous networks including LAN (802.3),
VLAN (Layer 3), Bluetooth, 802.11a/b, hot spots, 1xRTT, GPRS, CDMA,
CDPD, NTT DoCoMo, PHS, GSM-Data, EDGE, UMTS, HSCSD, POTS, ISDN, DSL and
Cable.

How does Viatores work
in public networks where a Mobile IP infrastructure does not exist?
Viatores does not require any Mobile IP components (e.g. foreign
agent) to be installed outside of the corporate network. When users
roam outside the corporate network, the Viatores Client operates
in "co-located" mode and can utilize any available network to stay
connected.
What operating systems does Viatores support?
The Viatores Client supports the following operating systems:
Windows ME
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Pocket PC 2002
The Viatores Server supports Linux, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003.

What kind of an ROI does
Viatores provide?
In addition to the legacy VPN ROI resulting from savings in modem
banks and telecom charges, the cost savings with Viatores are measured
primarily in productivity gains and reduction in support costs for
mobile users. Viatores takes out all the hassles of mobile computing.
It automatically chooses the best network connection available to
use and the security needed for each instance. This lowers the amount
of time users waste reconfiguring their devices, rebooting and re-starting
their applications. Furthermore, help desk calls are reduced drastically
because mobile users no longer have to call their IT department
to request support and since Wi-Fi and WWAN networks are making
almost every employee mobile, that adds up very quickly. To get
your customized ROI click here.
How scalable is Viatores?
Viatores is very scalable. It supports clustering,
hardware acceleration, automated client distribution, and centralized
management. These features are key to large deployments.

What equipment has Viatores
been tested with?
A full list of supported communication devices can be found on the
Ecutel web site Tech Notes section, see tech note #1002.
Will Viatores affect network
performance?
Any time encryption is used, the performance of the network is impacted.
However, with Viatores, network performance is optimized by providing
hardware acceleration and compression. In the vast majority of case,
network performance is increased, not decreased.

IC² FAQ
I already have an NMS. Why do I need IC2?
IC2 is a remote enterprise management solution. It is not meant to replace your Network Management System - rather, it allows you to get more value out of it at a very low incremental cost. You already receive alerts of network problems though your NMS.
Top
Why not respond to them and start troubleshooting immediately?
IC2 Remote Enterprise Management allows you to act on network alerts via whatever means you choose - secure telnet, SSH, SNMP, and Windows Administration.
Give me an example of how I can use IC2 to resolve a network problem?
Say, email is down. You can ping your mail server, and then reboot it using IC2.
Who is a typical user of IC2?
Any network-dependent organization, which would include any company that relies on its network infrastructure for successful operations and a high level of productivity.
-
Large companies - large companies tend to have strict requirements for network uptime due to missions-critical nature of applications that they run.
-
Small companies - small companies tend to have few people on staff to maintain their network. Chances are, these companies don't have an expensive NMS installed, neither is there a 24x7 IT staff to support the network. In this case, IC2 can act as a secure centralized remote network management tool.
-
Managed network services providers, including ISP's, hosting companies, ASP's, and integrators - IC2 allows not only to ensure a high level of productivity of internal customers/employees through timely and successful network maintenance, but also affords a better way meet Service Level Agreements with external clients, thus contributing directly to the bottom line.
Channel Partners
-
Resellers/VAR's - IC2 can be sold as a stand-alone or as a complimentary solution to many applications, including network management and network problem alerting.
-
System Integrators - IC2 is an excellent add-on component to any network management system, and, can be used as part of the overall network management solution.

How much does it cost?

I have a 24x7 NOC with personnel monitoring the performance of my network at all times. Why do I need IC2?
Usually, personnel responsible for monitoring network performance are tasked with escalating problems to the appropriate 2nd level IT personnel for resolution. Your level 2 personnel may not be immediately available to resolve the situation. With IC2, you can also avoid the escalation delay and enable your level one employees to resolve network problems by providing them with an IC2-powered handheld or Web client that contains pre-scripted commands.
My requirements call for something different from what IC2 provides today.

Can you make any changes to the existing commercial package?
