Ecutel's Statement on Industry Standards

Ecutel strongly believes in following the best standards available to ensure that maximum security is achieved.  Our implementation of a Mobile VPN solution adheres to two important standards: IPSec, which is the de facto security standard for the majority of VPNs and Mobile IP, which is the mobility standard of choice.

The Internet Standards Process, Revision 3, or RFC 2026 for short, defines the nature and process of Internet standards. This document highlights the importance of following standards and the pitfalls for not doing so.  In the world of heightened security, adhering to standards reduces the risks associated with proprietary solutions.

According to RFC 2026, the goals of the Internet Standards Process are:

  • technical excellence;

  • prior implementation and testing;

  • clear, concise, and easily understood documentation;

  • openness and fairness; and

  • timeliness.

A proprietary solution on the other hand is architected by a handful of individuals and tested by a few.  True testing takes place in customer networks with real-world data and many consequences.  When it comes to security, the standard of choice is IPSec!
